Mindful Meditation Ten million people in the United States practice mindful meditation.
That's a lot.
Mindful meditation has become popular as more and more people enjoy a better, less stressful, more productive life.
Living a better, less stressful, and more productive life.
Why do these people turn to meditation to improve their daily lives?
The easy answer is that meditation works.
The harder answer is that today
we suffer from more information overload and stress than previous generations.
Some meditators want to reduce stress and enjoy more peace.
Others seek greater awareness to create a more purposeful life.
Still, others want to be more mindful and align their thoughts with their actions.
Mindful meditation is useful for all of these purposes.
However, what is true for all is that the more you know about your mindset, the more you can control your life.
Whatever the reason, mindful meditation can be a powerful force.
For example,
Like music, life has many layers, and mindful meditation can help you be aware of all the nuances.
Be aware of all the nuances.
Mindful meditation is not magic.
It allows you to focus your attention
in the here and now.
Too often our attention can go to the past or the future.
Past or future. We become distracted and unable to focus on what is important in the present.
Important in the present moment.
Mindful meditation gives us the power to focus on the here and now.
It increases our mental energy, which allows us to perform better and achieve more.
Simply put, mindful meditation makes us more effective in many areas of our lives.
Most importantly, it gives us control. The mind is an extremely labyrinthine
maze, where the subconscious mind can rule and put obstacles in our way.
There are times when we behave in certain ways without knowing why.
Conscious meditation raises our awareness and opens our minds to more answers.
More answers.
Our senses are sharpened and we enjoy the present more.
Daily activities, from what we eat, how we enjoy art and listen to music, and how we respond to friends and family, become more vibrant as mental walls come down.
Mindful meditation relaxes us.
With mindfulness, stress and unpleasant thoughts become less threatening and easier to deal with. We are more relaxed and able to let more joy and peace into our lives.
Today we live in a state of impermanence like never before in history.
More than a hundred years ago, most people spent their lives in the city where they were born. They knew all their neighbors. Their place in life
Determined their jobs.
This may not seem ideal to us, but it certainly wasn't stressful.
Today we live very disparate lives.
We move frequently and barely know our neighbors. We change jobs and friends regularly.
We change jobs and friends.
Constant change has become the only permanence we can rely on.
There is no denying that modern knowledge and convenience have brought us incalculable advantages.
incalculable advantages.
At the same time, we have lost touch with other people and with the environment.
connection with other people and with the environment.
Mindful meditation brings us back
that important lost connection to what is going on inside and around us.
It is not an antidote to the problems of living in the 21st century, but it can
provide the necessary skills to help us deal with many of its problems.
You don't have to be a yogi to reap the benefits of mindful meditation.
The more you practice it, the better you get at it.
It's like an exercise for the mind.
You know what daily exercise does for your body.
It strengthens and strengthens your muscles.
In the same way, daily mental meditation strengthens the mind and sharpens the thought process.
It's both simple and challenging, and at all times it's a choice.
I hope this book helps you do the right one.
Consistency is the key to a successful practice.
Even a short period of meditation every day is more effective than long sporadic meditations.
Like physical exercise, mindful meditation is a process.
Success doesn't happen overnight.
But it will happen.
When you begin a meditation journey, you may find it difficult to sit quietly for 15 or 20 minutes at a time.
You may start making excuses why you can skip meditation for just one day.
Day.
This will make it difficult to resume meditation the next day.
It will make it difficult to resume meditation the next day, and easily become an excuse not to do it.
You're too tired, too busy, too frustrated.
Too busy, too frustrated... Any excuse is a good excuse.
That's why you need to make a commitment to meditate regularly.
Ask yourself what motivated you in the first place.
Make a pact with yourself.
